2019 was declared the Year of Spain at MIEF

This year, Spain has taken part in the Moscow International Education Fair as a guest of honour and the partner country of the year for MIEF 2019. The second day of the global education forum, April 11, was declared the Spain Day at MIEF: the Fair’s Program included conferences, round tables and presentations dedicated to the interaction of the Russian and Spanish education systems.
Isabel Celaá, Minister of Education and Vocational Training of the Kingdom of Spain: “I would like to thank the organizers of MIEF 2019 and the participants of the discussions and presentations about Spain, the Spanish language and cooperation in the area of education between Russia and Spain. The participation of Spain in MIEF as a guest of honour means that the connections between our education institutions, children and young people will be strengthened in the future and will promote understanding between our countries.”
Ángeles Heras Caballero, Secretary of State for Universities, Research, Development and Innovation of the Kingdom of Spain: “Both on behalf of the Government of Spain and personally from the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain, Pedro Duque, who has received an excellent education in Russia, I would like to thank the Government of the Russian Federation for inviting Spain to take part in the Moscow International Education Fair as a partner. Our delegation includes representatives of 17 of Spain’s 54 universities. They offer cooperation to students and researchers in the Russian Federation. Sharing knowledge at the international level is extremely important, and we believe that this cooperation should be strengthened.”
Russian and Spanish education experts discussed the development in teaching Spanish within the world’s major education systems, vocational training for the teachers of Spanish in Russia, as well as R&D cooperation between Russian and Spanish universities. Besides, during the Spain Day at MIEF the From Moscow to Seville conference of rectors of Russian, Spanish and Latin American universities along with the presentation of the Study in Spain project were held.
The events were attended by representatives of the Embassy of Spain in the RF, the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE), the Association of Hispanists of Russia, the International Center of the Spanish Language of the University of Malaga, the Technical University of Madrid, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Russian-Spanish University Center of the University of Cádiz and the Cervantes Institute in Moscow. Russia’s leading universities, such as MGIMO University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Higher School of Economics National Research University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Institute of Foreign Languages of the Moscow Pedagogical State University and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, took part in the discussions and presented their opinion of the current situation.
Education professionals have noted that the Spanish language is becoming more and more popular in all areas of the education system of Russia and have agreed that such evolution of the Spanish language is an essential element of the communication between the two countries in the cultural, diplomatic and business areas. Common understanding of the importance of resumed cooperation between Russian and Spanish universities has become one of the main results of the Spain Day at MIEF.
